Abstract
An increasing use of renewable energy systems can be seen in the European heating market. Pellet heaters play an important role in the field of biomass systems. The challenge is to evaluate the potentials of various raw materials for the production of wood pellets in the future. The current pellet heating market in Europe is covered in the first part of this paper. In the next section, an analysis is to occur about future prospects and other influential factors that have an effect on the pellet heating market. The third and final part focuses on different types of raw materials, which are suitable for the production of pellets. In addition, the supply potential of pellets from outside Europe is set out in detail and how these can offset the possible supply deficit in the European market. At the end of each chapter, the main findings will be summarized.
