Abstract

An integrated iron and steel plant is characterized by high energy turnovers (consumption and production) of several kinds of energy carriers (several kinds of gas, steam and electric current) needed during the various production steps that transform iron ore into high-quality steel products (heavy plate and flat rolled products). From this point of view, energy management is a very important task for the iron and steel production. In this paper we introduce EMS, an information system for an integrated iron and steel plant. EMS is the acronym for energy management system, the original goal of the project.
