    Abstract

The present work deals with the optimization of plasticizing units for injection molding machines. These functional units are the heart of any injection molding machine, as they are responsible for most process operations such as conveying, melting, injecting, and packing the material to be processed. In particular, the interaction of single-screw and barrel, in combination with the corresponding process control, is covered in detail. Therefore, a new Screw Simulation Software (S3) is being developed to predict the optimum screw geometries and operating conditions for eachapplication. The aim is designing the software to find a good compromise between simulation time and accuracy.
