Abstract

We present a novel strategy for making non-trivial matches of position openings versus job applications. The strategy forms a logically based framework for the development of a real system which ensures a correct and an efficient matching. In our framework, we translate the notions of knowledge and skills into abstract mathematical sets. The sets are classified and ordered, as the skills are in the real life. The operations of finding similarities between skills are then made as set intersections based on the mathematical apparatus for set operations. Moreover, this theoretical model gives not only the possibility to decide if two objects are similar or not, but also it defines a distance between them. Based on that distance, one may compute the effort needed for a job applicant to fulfill precise job descriptions.
