Abstract
In this paper a parabolic parameter identification problem is investigated. The problem is formulated as a nonlinear operator equation between Hilbertspaces, and the Frechet-differentiability is shown. We use Newton-type methods to examine under which conditions they give a
reasonable numerical approximation. The experiments show in particular the importance of the source condition.
