A Novel Low-Cost Ultra Wideband Microstrip Pulse Forming Network for Gaussian Monocycle Generation

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference proceedingspeer-review

Abstract

A big challenge in ultra wideband communications is the generation of the Gaussian monocycle with sufficient energy and short time duration for use in wireless short range transmitting systems. For pulse shaping a novel microstrip pulse forming network is introduced and the use of this pulse former in combination with a commercially available pulser is shown. The monocycle pulse after this pulse forming network has an amplitude of 1.8 Vpp and a time duration below 300 ps. Furthermore, monocycle generation in combination with the microstrip network and a low-cost self-made SRD (step recovery diode) pulser is shown.
