Abstract
In this paper, we present a new method for the location of low- and high resistance earth faults based on stationary measurements. The only restriction to the earth fault resistance is that it is lower than the natural unsymmetry of the network. The approach is based on a modified chain matrix description of the network combined with the use of graph algorithms. By means of a second measurement the proposed earth fault location algorithm is robust against instrument transformer errors and variations in the line parameters. In this manner the presented method enables to reduce the time for finding the faulty line segment. Results of field tests demonstrate the feasibility of this new method.
