Abstract

In this paper a high-performance multi-channel baseband board for frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar applications is presented. Beeing fully controllable by MATLAB via USB this system realizes a powerful development and testing platform for a variety of different radar system concepts. Its main tasks are to provide reproducible measurement data, for system and component verifications, and the possibility to evaluate signal processing algorithms. The baseband board contains a field programable gate array as control and signal processing unit, 16 analog-to-digital and 8 digital-to-analog channels, a highly reconfigurable signal generator block, a configurable low noise power supply unit, and a highspeed USB2.0 interface. In this paper we introduce the major assemblies and components, and verify the achievable performance with measurement results.
