Abstract

In this paper the development of a prototype microwave system intended for nondestructive material testing is presented. A flexible system concept is proposed, that can be used both, for simple localization of fault positions as well as for sophisticated tomographic imaging of the material under test. A strong focus of this work is given to a low-cost implementation of the whole system. Therefore all of the radio frequency (RF) building blocks are designed in microstrip technology with as less concentrated elements as possible. After the presentation of the system concept and a detailed design description of the RF blocks, measurement re- sults taken with a prototype system are presented that show the applicability of the realized system to practical measurement applications.
