Abstract
This paper deals with a novel hydraulic drive for large
presses, combining the benefits of well developed but spacedemanding
displacement control with the simplicity and reliability
of digital hydraulics. In order to achieve these objectives,
a single cylinder actuated by a variable displacement pump is
synchronized with a set of cylinders driven by ordinary on/off
valves. This setup is investigated using numerical simulation, an
adequate control strategy as well as an experimental setup. All
in all, very satisfying results regarding positioning accuracy and
operating frequency are achieved using a quite simple control
strategy.
