Abstract
This episode's guest is Jónatan Sólon Magnússon, a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria. Jónatan is researching artificial intelligence and the economic conditions associated with that development, with a special focus on the labour market. We discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on employment and unpaid work, how automation can lead to changes in the labour market, and the idea of "freedom from work to generate freedom to work". Jónatan introduces ideas about a basic subsistence guarantee as a way to accommodate changes in the labour market, the use of artificial intelligence to take over precarious and unwanted jobs, and how capitalist economies need to evolve to meet the new realities of ageing, slow-growing populations, climate change, and technological innovations.
