Abstract

This paper describes several aspects of a project whose primary objective is to evaluate virtual environments as instruments for simulation, training, quality monitoring and marketing of industrial processes. In particular, it describes the Continuous Casting Simular Environment (VR-CCSE) prototype starting with the tasks it was designed to carry out and proceeding to its architecture, its implementation, and an assessment of its deployment to date. The use of VR for industrial training simulations is, in and of itself, nothing new. The project described in this paper, however, certainly can be regarded a novel and innovative, since it has to do with employing VR applications for training simulation of highly complex industrial facilities.
