Description

The purpose of the study is to provide information on the use of new information technologies in Austrian libraries. It is aimed to distinguish significant changes relating to the penetration and take-up of new technologies and to identify dominant trends for the future. This study addresses the following four key areas: - the extent to which catalogues (especially of major collections) exist in machine readable form, - the role of computer-networks for libraries, - the level of automation for the other library housekeeping functions and - the use of computer-based user-related services. Also included is information on costs and on the proportion of library budgets devoted to information technologies.
