Project Details
Description
In the course of this research project, simulation models are developed that capture the time-dependent conveying and plastication performance for various types of single-screw extruders with high-performance screws, including unstable process conditions. Primary investigated phenomena are pressure, temperature and throughput fluctuations due to plugging of the screw channel, or due to fluctuating material properties that occur especially with bio-based or recycled polymer grades. With the aid of the simulation models, it should be feasible to derive generally valid guidelines for high-performance screw design. The intended cooperation between the KTP in Paderborn and the IPPD in Linz provides extraordinary opportunities to reach the objectives mentioned, owing to the joint expertise in the field of extrusion modelling as well as the complementary scientific infrastructure.
