Description
Continuous fiber-reinforced composites (CFRC) play an important role in high-end lightweight ap-plications. While for decades the production of composites was mainly based on low-molecular-weight thermosets, a trend towards using thermoplastic materials has emerged over the past sev-eral years. These developments can be mainly attributed to the ability of thermoplastic materials to be repeatedly molten, thereby allowing reduced manufacturing times, high levels of process automation, and the possibility of mechanical recycling. To fully exploit these potentials, process design and optimization require thorough scientific attention.
