Project Details
Description
The project proposal LudaViz sits at the intersection of information visualization (IV) and video game design. In a world increasingly driven by data, data should not only be effectively but also engagingly and memorably visualized. We focus on what we call ludic visualizations (LVs) – a form of data representation that harnesses diegetic elements and the narrative environment of video games to convey information in a manner that is both aesthetically appealing and functional. The goals of LudaViz are twofold: 1) develop an understanding of these understudied type of visualization and formulate guidelines for casual IV design, and 2) investigate how the visualization of players' behavioral data in games can contribute to increased engagement with the data and give rise to new game experiences
