Description
Traffic policy as a challenge of sustainable development is well-anchored in the public discussion, but inside the companies, traffic as a management field is often neglected. This problem originates on the hand from the organizational position of transportation within the companies' management activities, on the other hand from the relatively low weight of transportation costs within the firms´ expenditures in total. Nevertheless especially branches of industry with a high transport intensity should definitely pay attention to the field of transport which brings about both economic advantages as well as positive environmental effects.
Sustainable transport as the strategic approch of optimizing that management area means the compliance of a pre-defined transportation performance with a minimum of environmental stresses and economic costs. The fulfilling of those requirements primarily is a matter of improving transport ecfficiency which can be done in three ways, namely by avoiding transports being less necessary, the shifting of transport to other transportation modes and the optimization of the firms transport proceedings.
