Project Details

Description

Within this project a pathway for the synthesis of new bio inspired glue materials useable for the bonding of steel will be investigated. Along with the synthesis of the chemical compounds the analytical methods for resin analytics and also for the qualification of the metal-glue interphases will be developed. Bonded and tested structures will be investigated by surface analytical methods in order to determine chemical gradients towards the bonded surfaces and to elucidate the nature of the underlying bonding mechanisms. Complementary, to further unravel molecular adhesion mechanism and bonding under electrochemical conditions this project will focus on measuring interaction forces and polymer characteristics using optical tweezers, atomic force microscopy and surface forces apparatus experiments under potential control on chemically defined model and steel surfaces.
