Description
BeAware! proposes novel semantic-based methods and technologies to leverage awareness in large-scale control systems. The innovative character of BeAware! stretches over two unique but highly interwoven research goals. Firstly, BeAware! aims at achieving immediate awareness of current and future critical situations. For this, ontological representations of situations are developed allowing spatio-temporal reasoning on the evolution and similarity of critical situations. Supporting this, a framework is realized, facilitating efficient, computationally-tractable, and robust situation assessment for large scale control systems. Secondly, BeAware! focuses on instantaneous awareness about resolutions as well as pro-active prevention of critical situations by means of appropriate actions. The semantics of these actions is formalized by an ontological-representation which is homogeneously integrated with the situations they apply on. In this respect, a major emphasize is on the elaboration of action assessment, projecting and reasoning on the impacts of actions, which enables operators to be aware of the effects actions are likely to have on the environment under control.
