Wolfgang Schöfberger leads a team that works in the field of organic chemistry. And in this case, the chemistry was just right: the JKU scientists actually found a way to convert the harmful gas CO₂ into alcohol! More precisely: into ethanol and methanol — but in the end, it’s all alcohol.
With this achievement, the JKU chemists won the State Prize for Innovation in the category of research-based enterprises. “Innovative strength is an important driving force for our region, especially now in these challenging times. After all, innovation is a crucial prerequisite for ensuring that our companies and the state of Upper Austria can continue to hold their own in international competition.”
