The Institute of System Software does research and development in the following areas: System software: Operating system components (file systems, processes, memory management, window systems), software development environments, text and graphic editors, browsers, debuggers, user interfaces and hypertext tools. Object-oriented and component-based software: object-oriented languages and frameworks, component description languages, message semantics. Compilers: formal languages, compilers and compiler generators, compiler optimization, just in time compilation, static single assignment form, register allocation. Web engineering: Java technology, Microsoft .NET platform, Web Services, Javascript. Software testing and test tools. Location based services in pervasive environments.
