The BiOM department focuses on protein-based building blocks that govern assembly, structure and mechanical properties of biological materials. We investigate the structure-function-mechanics relationships of these protein building blocks, engineer their properties and use them to create multifunctional mechanoresponsive molecules and materials. This research advances our understanding of mechanical processes in biology and develops new tools for biomedical and materials science applications.
