Description

The application and adaptation of watermarking methodologies within databases is an emerging technological interest, especially with respect to the vastly growing number of publicly available online databases. Unlike traditional multimedia-related watermarking techniques, databases require novel and unique approaches towards information hiding. Regarding this trend, we will discuss the unique challenges concerning watermarking information systems, and subsequently have a look at the most promising watermarking approaches up to the current state-of-the-art within this research area. The main benefits from database watermarking cover integrity assurance, detection of malicious modifications, protection of ownership rights and back-tracing of informational duplicates across the Web.
