Seit etwa zwanzig Jahren prägt der Begriff der Kompetenzorientierung auch die wirtschaftsdidaktische Diskussion in Österreichs Schulen. Aber der Begriff ist unklar und vielschichtig. Über schriftliche Befragungen und Interviews wurde erhoben, was kaufmännische Lehrkräfte eigentlich unter „Kompetenzorientierung“ verstehen, was sie davon halten und wie ihre Einstellung zur Kompetenzorientierung mit ihrem Begriffsverständnis zusammenhängt.
