(Towards) exploring the genesis of competition in economic thought

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

A research strategy is introduced in exploring the historical and conceptual foundations of competition in economic research by applying topic modelling (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) to a corpus of more than 27.000 competition- related research articles published between 1852 and 2017. After giving a short overview about the principal methodology of topic modelling and its inference algorithm (Collapsed Gibbs Sampling), the sample selection procedure and some basic sample statistics are discussed. Then, some preliminary results of the topic modelling exercise are delivered with an outlook on the further strategy.
