Description

The paradigmatic shift through S-BPM is accounted to independent subjects performing arbitrary actions on arbitrary objects. Since Abstract State Machines (ASMs) work on a similar basis exploring the capabilities of this approach with respect to representing and executing S-BPM models could not only strengthen the theoretical foundations of S-BPM, and thus, validity of S-BPM tools, but also the coherence of intertwining business process modelling and the execution of S-BPM representations. In this feasibility analysis we have developed a framework and roadmap tackling the exploration of the ASM approach in the context of S-BPM. We elaborate the implementation of an executable workflow engine with an Abstract State Machine interpreter based on an existing abstract interpreter model for S-BPM. Being developed in the context of the Open-S-BPM initiative this workflow engine could serve as a baseline and reference implementation for further language and processing developments, such as simulation tools.
