The 39th Conference of the American Sociological Association’s Section on Political Economy of the World-System (PEWS) delved into the core interests of the section, that is to explain the production and reproduction of asymmetric power relations and macro and micro-level inequalities in their world-historical context. More precisely, the conference focused on the theme of "Global Inequalities: Hegemonic Shifts and Regional Differentiations". Sub-themes were i) Reconsidering semiperipheries: evolutionary, epistemic, or antisystemic potential? ii) Latin America and Eastern Europe facing the East Asian challenge; iii) Coloniality of power and the imperial difference and iv)Migration and global social mobility.
