It is of ever increasing importance that assistance systems in a car are easily "learnable" and demand only little attention for using or interacting with them. This request is not surprising as vehicle operation has massively changed in the last decades – the self-contained mechanical task of operating controls has shifted toward a complex interaction and/or adaptation task, involving a rising number of operational controls with more and more functions each. Thus, the attention of a driver is increasingly disposed from the primary task of steering to driving-independent tasks, necessitating both high attention and frequent task switching to complete within time. To cope with the rising volume of information in vehicular interfaces, explicit and attentive interaction is more and more replaced by implicit means of information exchange; nevertheless, due to the limited cognitive resources of a driver even multimodal, implicit solutions hit their limits, demanding for new ways and means of preventing information overload... [come and hear what they are] The talk aims at summarizing latest research in the utilization of the car seat for improving driving efficiency/comfort by applying implicit input and output techniques and will in particular give an outlook of possible future improvements in the driver-vehicle information flow. Finally, the talk will conclude with a set of research questions around the discussed topic.
