Technology Transformation in Air Traffic Management: From Information Filtering and Integration to Predictive Analytics and Optimization

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkscience-to-science

Description

The air traffic industry is experiencing profound change regarding the use of information technology. The volume, variety, and velocity of data that are generated and digitally exchanged are increasing. In this context, two important questions arise. First, how do you design the information systems that handle the data? And, second, how can you put the data to good use? This presentation will give an overview of the results of different collaborative research projects in the area of air traffic management aimed at answering precisely those questions. In particular, the presentation will show the results of recent efforts to employ knowledge graphs and ontologies for information filtering and integration as the basis for data-driven decision making and predictive analytics. The presentation will also show results towards a privacy-preserving data-sharing market for airlines to collaboratively optimize the flight sequence in situations of reduced capacity of the air traffic network.
