Teaching Strategy in a Complex World – Challenges Involved

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

To become effective strategic leaders in today’s complex and turbulent business environment, students must learn to make complex decisions, open their minds to various perspectives, and encounter different points of view in their strategizing. To develop the skills required, we propose an interactive, discursive, and reflective form of teaching fostering abstract thinking, reflexivity, and the ability to transfer learnings to other contexts. However, implementing such an approach is not without its challenges. This paper discusses the key obstacles associated with this teaching style. Based on student feedback, we reflect on where these obstacles may originate from and discuss the changes we must make in our teaching to overcome them. Our objective is to show how we can assist students in developing the skills required.
