Study on the Dependency of Soft Magnetic Material Properties on the Magnetization Angle for Electric Machine Design

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

This work deals with the investigation on the anisotropy of soft magnetic materials. The particular focus is on measuring the material properties for different magnetization angles by utilizing a 2D measurement setup with a disc-shaped specimen. Thereby, the material properties are determined for different magnetization angles and compared with each other. Based on the measurement results, it is shown that the range of material properties is often not limited by those longitudinal and transverse to the rolling direction. Moreover, further simulation results, especially when considering additional magnetization directions for material modeling, show that a consideration of anisotropy is of significant importance for the design of electric machines. Finally, the outcomes can be used to model the anisotropy for 2D finite element simulation tools. When designing electric machines, especially taking the distribution of iron losses in the soft magnetic material into account, this knowledge can lead to better and more accurate results
