ROGUE WAVES: A LINEAR APPROXIMATION Sergei K. Suslov School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Arizona State University Abstract We elaborate on the phenomenon of Giant, Freak, or Rogue Waves in the ocean. A simplest possible explanation, in a linear approximation, is given. Some computer simulations are presented and related open problems are discussed. The talk has an introductory character and is suitable for a general public.
