    Description

Over several decades after the invention of the injection moulding machine there was no possibility for non-invasive quantitative measurements of the polymer melt temperature in the screw ante-chamber and in the channels of the plasticization screw. Due to the fact that the sound velocity is temperature depending, we developed ultrasound based melt temperature measurement systems working in the high-temperature and high-pressure environment of polymer processing. The results show significant temperature gradients in the screw ante-chamber and a complex thermal history of the melt in the screw channels during the plasticization process.
