Perspectives of Smartphone Technology as a Supply Chain Event Management Tool

Description

Tracking and tracing of deliveries are important elements of supply chain event management. Proprietary fleet management systems are supporting the information flow form the sender to the receiver, but often do not trace individual consignments. This may be achieved by automatic identification on fix points in the supply chain or by continuous tracking & tracing of vehicles using smartphone technologies and open information platforms to be interfaced by transport stakeholders. To verify the relevance and practicability of their approach the authors proved their hypothesis with a prototype installation at a production site of an international truck producer in Steyr, Austria.
