Description

We present our research on a sensor setup utilizing pressure waves to determine physical fluid parameters for condition monitoring applications. Compared to approaches utilizing shear waves to measure liquid parameters, the use of pressure waves enables to sense the bulk of the fluid sample and therefore helps to overcome the drawback of the small penetration depth of shear waves. We describe the basic sensor concept and the associated theoretical model. In particular we outline a 1D-model for the whole sensor setup and discuss the possible modes of operation for the sensor. Finally, the obtained simulation results are compared to measurement results obtained with two prototype devices.
