Description
This paper presents the hypothesis of "passive Gleichschaltung" within organizations implicated by nowadays persisting processes of organizational change and transformation. In a first step, the concept of culture as an organization's social order will be elaborated as the foundation for this hypothesis. Considering the fact, that an organization's culture is never perceived in the same way by each one of its members, there is a need to keep two further aspects in mind: its multi-perspective character and an inner-organizational counter-culture. In a second step, intra-organizational institutions with their link to employees' social identities will be illustrated as central characteristics of an organizational culture. The outline of the process of organizational change respectively transformation and its implications for its employees in terms of damaged identities will be conducted in a third step.
