Description

Researchers are increasingly focusing their attention on so-called extreme teams – that is, teams that navigate high-stakes scenarios characterized by time pressure, danger, and significant consequences of failure. Yet, despite their growing theoretical and practical relevance in addressing contemporary organizational and societal challenges, research on extreme teams remains fragmented across disciplines and methodologies. Our PDW attempts to bridge these divides, with two specific goals in mind: 1) Fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among diverse scholarly communities of practice, ranging from Organizational Behavior, Organization and Management Theory, and beyond, and 2) building and strengthening a community of like-minded extreme team scholars to facilitate future research collaborations. The PDW will include three parts, beginning with expert presentations on different methodological perspectives for studying extreme teams, followed by a panel discussion with leading scholars in the field. Next, facilitators and participants will break into interdisciplinary roundtables to synthesize insights and develop a cohesive future research agenda. Finally, we will share insights from each roundtable, engage in a final round of Q&A, and provide an opportunity for scholars to share additional insights to keep the momentum of our micro-community going after the session. This session aligns with AOM’s emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity by engaging participants from diverse disciplines and fostering a vibrant research community.
