Description
Since the mid-1980s interdisciplinary research on transnational and global commodity chains has provided important insights into issues such as for instance the altering patterns of global production and the global division of labor; patterns of unequal change between states and economies; global transformations in the capitalist economy; changes in global power regimes; organizational challenges of the labor and other social movements; living and working conditions of the workers and their families; varieties of culturally embedded interpretations of commodities as symbols.
The main purpose of this international and interdisciplinary session is to create a meeting point for the presentation and discussion of recent theoretical or empirical research on global commodity chains. The organizers invite researchers from all disciplines to submit suggestions for contributions in all areas of research addressed above.
