Open Foresight in the Front-End of an Open Innovation Process

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkunknown

Description

Open innovation activities can occur throughout various phases of the innovation value chain. In this research project open foresight activities in the front-end phase are of special interest. Open foresight should be a method to promote “out-of-the-box-thinking” and to initiate innovative developments and ideas for the participating companies. In this paper we study the key factors in the design and realisation of an open foresight process. The results of this study show that on the one hand there exists typical foresight challenges (e.g. to achieve a common understanding of the concept of foresight, to define clear goals, to design an appropriate process, or to “think in long time horizons”). On the other hand there are additional key factors, which arise due to the open foresight approach, e.g. to find a search field which is visionary and interesting for different companies, to select companies which fit with the search field themes and which fit together, or the design of a process which has high connectivity to the requirements of the participating companies.
