Novel viscosity and density sensors for oil condition monitoring

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

In this article, we present two innovative systems for monitoring liquid properties online. These systems shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2 rely on the measurement of viscosity and density and offer an extended measurement range that makes them ideal for monitoring lubricating oils. As a result, they can effectively support traditional oil analyses. We also discuss the importance of viscosity in maintenance and review the challenges that online sensors face. In addition, we demonstrate the performance of the systems and address potential issues that may arise during the measurement practice. These issues include fluid elasticity, vibration, and temperature normalization of measurements. We show that analyzing fluid elasticity, which is possible using these sensors for the first time, opens new opportunities in oil analysis.
