Neoliberal partisan think tank networks in Latin America and Europe: Cross national organizing, global linkers

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkunknown

Description

Transnational networks of partisan think tanks constitute a salient feature in the analysis of agents and structures of neoliberal policy making. They have considerable intellectual, media, policy advisory and organizing capacities and represent an institutional form, which complements international and supranational diffusion strategies centered on national institutional configurations. Umbrella organizations at global and macro-regional levels assume important tasks of transnational coordination of and support. for the transnational diffusion and translation of neoliberal ideas and technologies in policy making In our paper we will analyze and compare five Latin American think tank umbrella organizations of the neoliberal right and the European Stockholm and New Direction Networks. On the backdrop of organizational linkages within and across the networks, we identify the individuals who tie organizations together by serving on more than one advisory board or by serving as think tank employee and adviser for another think tank, for example. We will take a closer look at this core group to better understand the key characteristics of intellectuals who appear to be more central than others in the neoliberal networks. In combining the analysis of organizations, intellectuals and ideas we ultimately expect new insights with regard to the intellectual, social, and political endeavours of a transnational discourse community.
