Description

The presentation introduces an analytic/numerical model for the estimation of various mixing quality parameters in single screw extruders which has also been implemented. It generalizes an approach of Pinto/Tadmor to pseudoplastic, non-isothermal fluid flow by choosing 2-dimensional power law assumption as a basis and subdividing the extrusion channel into segments. The derived parameters refer to longitudinal and transversal mixing: As prerequisite the velocity field of the polymer melt, Residence Time (RST), RST-Density, Local Shear Deformation and WATS. Also the increasing complexity of the topic regarding current extruder designs has been pointed up and the main difficulties of the current implementation.
