The publication process of articles in economic journals appears to work pretty well as good articles seem to be published in good journals, if the quality of a journal is its impact factor. Oswald (2006) shows for example that articles in more prestigious journals get on average a higher number of citations. 1 Economists agree on the fact that many citations indicate a good article, although, citations of different sources might be differently weighted. But rankings often use journal impact factors to weight an article published in this journal 2. Many studies have shown that impact factors are bad measures for the quality of an individual article.
