Maximum likelihood estimation of power law prefactor and exponent from ultrasonic images

Activity: Talk or presentationContributed talkscience-to-science

Description

Quantitative Ultrasound has the potential to augment B-mode morphology images by visual cues also indicating the mechanical properties, like speed of sound, mass density, elasticity, and absorption parameters, of the interrogated biological tissues in such a way, as to significantly improve the diagnostic quality of the images presented to the clinician. We derive and discuss the maximum-likelihood joint estimators for both tissue’s absorption parameters, power-law prefactor, and power-law exponent and apply them to B-mode images with well-defined, since set so, tissue properties so that the estimator’s properties unbiasedness, and estimation variance, can be investigated properly.
