Description

Investigations of different soil layers under various conditions were performed empirically in a laboratory scale and compared with mathematical calculations due error functions. Therefore, a constant heat flux of an idealized vertical heat source was applied in the layer to measure the samples under dry, moisture and saturated conditions. In addition temperature profiles were generated. The comparison between the numerical model and empirical results showed the ability to describe the heat transfer in soil layers, while usually basic thermal properties are essential to predict the heat transfer. This study further serves to evaluate the thermal input and heat extraction for geothermal energy system as well as for heat storage processes located in the underground.
