Description

Mechanical properties of polymeric materials are determined by their microstructure caused by the chemical structure of the chain and the resulting morphology. While the chain structure is given by the synthesis the morphology depends not only on this parameter but also processing conditions such as temperature, pressure and/or mechanical stress additionally have an strong influence. Thus, to develop polymeric materials with tailored properties morphological characteristics have to be controlled by defined process conditions and characterized on both macroscopic and microscopic scale. For semicrystalline polymers degree of crystallinity and chain orientation are important characteristics that are usually investigated using X-ray diffraction.
