Intercultural Competence for Professional Mobility

  • Evelyne Glaser (Speaker)

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkunknown

Description

In view of the fact that the working environment is becoming increasingly multicultural, today's workforce is required to cope with linguistic and cultural differences on a day-to-day basis. Very little help is generally provided by organisations to develop and promote cross-cultural understanding and to facilitate intercultural communication in the aim to foster social cohesion. However, it cannot be taken for granted that university graduates entering professional life have been sufficiently exposed to different cultures and languages to be able to deal with the challenges arising from diversity in their work environment. This workshop will provide participants with a short introduction to a project completed within the framework of the Second Medium-Term Programme of the ECML on the theme of Communication in a Multicultural Society. This project called ICOPROMO, focused on the development of intercultural competence for professional mobility. Firstly, a model for the development of intercultural competence will be presented. Secondly, the participants will be invited to take part in two exemplary training activities developed within the scope of the project.
