Intelligent Vehicles – Automated Vehicles Impact on Road Users and Safety

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkscience-to-science

Description

Intelligent Vehicle (IV) technologies have experienced a great improvement in the last couple of decades aiming at improving the perception of the road environment and reducing road accidents. In this context unmanned vehicles are already becoming a reality, as many vehicles are already equipped with the technology that enable self-driving automation, such as lane-keeping assistance and automated braking. The feasibility of incorporating new technology-driven functionality to vehicles has played a central role in automotive design, however issues related to human capabilities, which affect a system’s operation have not always been considered. This presentation elucidates the broad issues involved in the interaction of road users with intelligent vehicle technologies, detailing interaction-design concepts and metrics while focusing on road safety.
