Heuristic solution for optimal hysteretic policy in a queue with a reserve unreliable service facility

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talkscience-to-science

Description

We study a Markovian queueing system supplied with main and reserve unre- liable service facility. Usage of the reserve facility is controlled by a hysteretic policy that depends on upper and lower threshold levels of queue length to increase and decrease the total service rate. The system is analysed as a pro- cess of type quasi-birth-and-death (QBD). For the cost structure we provide a heuristic solution for the optimal hysteretic control policy prescribing the activation of a reserve service facility with the aim to minimize the long-run average cost per unit of time. Numerical examples illustrate the efficiency of the theoretical results.
