Description

Since September 2020, Grégory De Boe has been working as an assistant and researcher at UCLouvain under the supervision of Professors Marie Lamensch and Valérie Swaen. His doctoral research explores the influence of environmental taxation, particularly on plastic packaging, on producers' circular practices. Three articles provide an in-depth analysis of the dynamics and impacts of these tax policies. The first article examines how taxes and subsidies influence the adoption of pro-environmental behaviour in various industries, using a systematic literature review. The second article evaluates the fiscal strategies implemented by the EU to reduce plastic packaging, highlighting the need for policy harmonisation to increase effectiveness. Finally, the third article, based on qualitative interviews with stakeholders in the food packaging value chain in the UK, Spain and Portugal, explores the perceptions and impacts of taxes on circular practices. Together, this work highlights the challenges and opportunities of using taxation to promote a circular economy, offering practical recommendations for policymakers and businesses.
